We picked up Alejandra from camp the first time we met her with a translator and headed off to dinner. She was quiet and shy for obvious reasons but that certainly didn't take long to get over. We all went back to our house and when she saw her room, the dogs and all of her new things, she went CRAZY - screeching, jumping around, dancing - she was quite happy with her new digs for the next few weeks. That very first Saturday back from vacation we had a pool party because there is nothing smarter you can do as a new "parent" than have a party 2 days after a week long vacation. Brilliant! The kids had a great time bonding with each other as well as with their host families. There were a couple of other events here and there where you bring your host child in hopes that they will meet a potential adoptive family who they have a connection with. We were so happy that we did the Summer Miracles hosting program and it certainly taught us what it was like to parent even if it was short term, non English, with 8 other kids in a program and at the last minute!
