A welcome uneventful day

Today was pretty uneventful which is nice compared to the last few days. I forgot to mention in my last post that in our ICBF meeting on Monday I was told that I have to stay until Tuesday instead of Sunday as planned. Some creep journalist here did a shady series that is currently airing in Bogota on how adoptions are basically selling kids which is kind of ridiculous because we have not given ICBF a single cent. The problem is that now everything has to be by the book and very careful so we have to stick to the 7 days integration period instead of the planned 5 all because of this yahoo guy. When we purchased our tickets on Delta, they were a special intl adoption fare where you get a major discount (almost 50%) and you are able to make any changes without penalty. When I called Delta last night the woman who answered the phone insisted that they could take off the $150 change fee but I still had to pay a difference in fare which was.....$1980...yes, I asked her 3 times in different ways to make sure she really said $1980. I sat in silence for about a minute and asked her to check with her supervisor but she came back with the same BS story. While I was on hold I looked up the cost of the 1 way ticket and it was only $715 so then I was even more confused. In any case, I hung up and started checking other airlines of which I found Spirit that had a 1 way fare of $410....better but still annoying. In my many years and many times of flying if there is one thing I have learned, it is that you can call an airline 10 different times and get 10 different answers all depending on who answers the phone. I called Delta back and started with a different approach of explaining I had purchased a fare with no change fees or penalties. Yep, different person, different answer! After about 30 minutes she came back and said she changed my flight with no charges and asked what seats I want on Tuesday. Booya!

This morning Milena made eggs with tomato, onion & I have no idea what else but they were super tasty. Also, she made arepa which is this AMAZING bread filled with cheese that I need to find when I get back to LA. Delicious! After breakfast we got the girls iPods working and they played a bunch of games that they have been missing since December. Mauricio picked us up to go get the girls' TB tests - Talia was fine but Leidy acted like someone was trying to chop her head off. A second woman had to come in and hold her down.....oh boy! We walked about a block to a cool indoor / outdoor shopping plaza and window shopped. The malls here are really big and nice. When we got back to the apartment we cleaned up all the girls' clothes and hung them up (see video) and they were giggling the whole time. Milena had left homemade fries (SOOO good) and a pot of chicken / rice / vegetables for us to eat for dinner and it was, again, super yummy! I am so glad we have her here.

The girls worked on math workbooks we bought them for about an hour after dinner and then we watched Elf which they had not seen before  - LOVE! They did some drawing in art books that we got them and now they are snoozing away. They sleep really well. Last night Talia slept 13 hours & Leidy 11....guess their big day tuckered them out.

So far it has rained (with hail) every day for about an hour but when it rains, it pours really hard the whole time so the streets are all flooded most of the day. The drivers are crazy and you hear horns honking every 10 seconds or more and pedestrians definitely do not have the right of way.

Their money is Colombian pesos and it is hard to figure out the conversion as you can see in the photo I took at the grocery store where our bill was $400,000 - Ha!

I am posting some pics of the city, a view from our apartment, Milena cooking, the girls and then the video of them that Evan snuck in because they do not love being on video, only photos.  ;)
